How to Stay Focused Working From Home

During times like these, it can become stressful to maintain focus on just one thing. If that be distractions from animals, kids, roommates or even spouses you need to find a healthy balance when working from home. Everyone has been impacted in one way or another from COVID-19. If that be school, work, or just leaving your home in general. The majority of colleges and universities have transitioned to all online coursework. Many of those who were working office jobs have been transitioned to work from home. Being one of those people in both aspects it has been extremely difficult to transition to everything revolving around one house and one workspace. 


Some of the things that have helped me most when working from home are as follows: 

  • Use a desk setup

    • If this be makeshift or an actual desk, sitting up straight can help you focus on your work and refrain from distractions.

  • Setting aside different spaces for certain task

    • If that be moving from one chair at your kitchen table to the other to switch from school work to work from your job.

  • Put your phone on do not disturb

    • The more outside distractions you have the less likely you are to take your focus away from your work. 

  • Create boundaries with the other people in your living space

    • If that be making it known what room(s) you will be in or getting ear plugs/ using headphones to keep the noise out 

  • Maintain a positive outlook

    • Don’t be too hard on yourself, everyone is going through the same troubles and you are not alone.


Make sure you are staying safe and staying healthy. Keep a positive outlook on all aspects of life and remember everyone is going through this together.
